Mitch Oddo retired from Supervalu on June 7, 2010 with 39 years of service. Mitch became category manager for liquor, beer and wine over 25 years ago and was the key person and driving force in building Osco Drug and other divisions of the company into one of the country’s highest volume food and drug retailers in these categories. Mitch was Corporate Vice President responsible for the liquor departments. The update below was provided by Mitch:
I retired June 7, 2010 after 39 years with Supervalu/Albertsons/American Stores/Osco. I accepted a new job with a company based out of California and started August 9. 2010. I will remain a vice president nationally in my new position. This job will require traveling but is should be "fun" and I am truly looking forward to working for them. I will let this company decide how they want to announce my position.
We moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to Boise, Idaho to Minneapolis, Minnesota and now we are making another move back to Chicago, Illinois. We plan to reside in Illinois until our son, Sam (13), goes off to college. Our "retirement" will be down the road with plans to reside somewhere out West.
Life has been very good, with seven children and four grand-daughters. We are so busy entertaining family and friends and traveling. Life never stays still and we love it. My wife, Karel, is the perfect hostess, always cooking and baking up a storm and having company stay with us constantly. Our home has three guest bedrooms so we have lots of room! Family visits often and we enjoy the grandchildren so much. Sam, our youngest, is heavily involved in sports: hockey, baseball and football, so year round we are booked with many nights of traveling with him in all that he does! Its been great... life does not get better!
We traveled to Italy and Germany in June 2010, our third trip to Europe over the past five years. We hope to make a few more trips over seas throughout the next few years. We lost my mom in March, a very unexpected passing.
I spend any spare time taking Sam fishing, hunting, shooting and of course we are all movie buffs! Our golden retriever, Charlie is 8 -- our youngest "baby" and we bike him and walk him most days. Our Minnesota home is on the market and as soon as it sells we will re-locate possibly to the towns west in Illinois in the Fox Valley St. Charles, Batavia, or Geneva area.
Mitch also mentions he is looking forward to attending alumni club events.
