2024 December 23rd: John Hathcock


Johnny Edward Hathcock,84, passed away on December 23, 2024, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. He was born in Corinth, MS on March 6, 1940, to the late William Odell and Ella Jay Hathcock. He was a 1958 graduate of Corinth High School and continued his education at Memphis State where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He and his wife JoAnn moved to Chicago where he would begin his professional career working for Osco Drug Company. He was transferred to Muncie, Indiana where he lived for 16 wonderful years until his final transfer to Memphis. After retiring from Osco Drug, Johnny embarked on a new career in the antique jewelry business and started Heritage Jewelry. He traveled much of the South and Northeast selling jewelry until he retired at 80. He was an active member of Germantown Baptist Church where he drove a church bus for 24 years for his beloved Rossville tutoring students. Johnny loved to travel and spent many hours behind the wheel of his motor home with family and friends seeing most of the United States but always found his way back to his deck at his cottage in Round Pond, Maine.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, W.O. Hathcock and Jimmy Hathcock, sisters, Helen Forrest and Marie Bell.


He is survived by his wife of 68 years, JoAnn Gallahar Hathcock; daughters, Delinda Hathcock and Nikki McVean (Dow); grandchildren, Elizabeth McVean, Alex McVean and Sarah Dow McVean; sisters, Ann Lewis and Becky Nelson; special sister-in-law, Larace Hathcock and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
