Donald L. Martin, 85, of Danville, Illinois, formerly of Catlin, Illinois, passed away at 8:37 pm (Indiana Time) on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the Waters of Covington in Covington, Indiana.
Don was born September 14, 1937, in Danville, Illinois to Walter J. & Agnes Gertrude Berg Martin. He married Jane E. O’Dear on February 1, 1985, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jane preceded him in death on August 18, 2022. Survivors include: two daughters: Linda Tinder of Catlin, Illinois and Vicky (Mike) Fester of Peru, South America; two sisters: Viola Houshier of Springfield, Illinois and Eunice J. Warner of Utah; four grandchildren: Beth Fester, Brandon Tinder, Steve (Misty) Fester, and John (Hanny) Fester; Seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson: Jeremy Tinder.
Don served in the United States Army. He was employed in the retail division of Osco Drug Store in Danville for 35 years and with Danville Wholesale Paper for 15 years. He was devout member of Calvary Baptist Church in Danville serving as trustee and prayer team leader and was active in the “ Gain More” Sunday school class, as well as being a member of the Danville Kiwanis Club.
Funeral service 11 am on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Humrichous & Pastor Dan Kitinoja officiating. Burial will be alongside Jane at Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin. Visitation is from 10 am till service time on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church. Memorials in Don’s memory to Calvary Baptist Church. I remember making recruiting trips to Western Illinois University and Don would always contribute his time and local knowledge to our recruiting efforts. He was a terrific guy and a loyal Osco man. RIP.
