JoAnn Hurst, 71, Thief River Falls, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, N.D., with her loving family at her side.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church rural Thief River Falls, with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Interment will be held at St. Pauli Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Friday, June 19 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church. Visitation will also be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
JoAnn Iverson was born on Feb. 17, 1944 in Grand Forks, N.D., the daughter of Irving and Dorothy (Czapiewski) Iverson. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Oslo. JoAnn attended Oslo Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, with the class of 1962.
Following high school she moved to Everett, WA and worked for the WT Grant Department Store. In the spring of 1963, JoAnn returned to make her home in Grand Forks, N.D., and went to work for Osco Drug.
On a blind date, JoAnn met her future husband, Larry Hurst and the couple were married Oct. 11, 1963 in Grand Forks, N.D. The couple made their home in various communities throughout the years and were the proud parents of three sons, Darin, James and Derik. For the past 29 years, they have made their home in Thief River Falls. JoAnn worked at Hartz Grocery for a short time and then went to work for her sister at Carol’s Café.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing solitaire and especially loved taking care of her children when they were growing. She always enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
JoAnn was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Larry; sons, Darin (Roberta) Hurst, James (Jessica) Hurst all of Thief River Falls, and Derik (Candy) Hurst of Chisholm; eight grandchildren, Derek, Kyle, Tyler, Jameson, Addyson, Dalton, Stormy and Belle; sisters, Nancy Harris, Cheryl (George) Brook; brother, Alan (Tammy) Iverson; brother-in-law, John Larson; sister-in-law, Carol Iverson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. JoAnn is preceded in death by parents; brother, Iver Iverson; infant sister, LeeAnn; and sister, Carol Larson.
