2015 August 3: Elaine Spooner

Elaine M. Spooner, age 71, of Sioux Rapids, died on Sunday, August 3, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center at Storm Lake.


Funeral services will be Friday, August 8, at 11 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.


Elaine Marie Beckfield, the daughter of Otto and Mary (Lange) Beckfield, was born in Storm Lake, on August 19, 1942. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Elaine lived her youth in the Laurens and Albert City vicinities. She was a graduate of the Albert City High School.


On September 23, 1961, Elaine was united in marriage to Gary Spooner in Schuyler, Neb. and this union was blessed with two sons: Daniel and Jeffrey. Following their marriage, Elaine and Gary have resided at Storm Lake, Omaha, Neb., and Aurelia. They then moved to Mesa, Ariz. where they made their home for 25 years. In 2001, Elaine and Gary moved to Sioux Rapids, where they have lived since that time. In addition to being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Elaine had worked at Vern's Variety Store in Storm Lake, Security International and King's Restaurant in Omaha, Nebraska, and Osco Drug in Mesa, Ariz.


Elaine's family and friends were the focus of her life and she enjoyed staying in communication with all of them through the telephone, the computer, and family reunions. She loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed making quilts for them which they treasure.


Elaine is lovingly remembered by her family which include her husband, Gary of Sioux Rapids; two sons: Daniel (Mary) of Gilbert, Ariz. and Jeffrey of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren: Jennifer, Jaimie, Jason, and Chelsey; four great grandchildren: Kara, Jessica, Rilyn, and Zachary; sister, Donna Johnson of Storm Lake; one brother, Marlin Beckfield of Des Moines; nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorene Rhoades.
