Richard "Dick" Allan Berray, 86, of Blackduck died on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society, Blackduck, MN. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Blackduck with Rev. John Yingling officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck, MN.
Dick was born on April 1, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Claude and Lyla (Hulbert) Berray. He graduated from Waterloo High School in 1951. He was part of the team that won the Iowa American Legion Baseball State Championship in 1950, where he earned the nickname “Yogi Berra”. In eighth grade he met his sweetheart Jacqueline “Jackie” Vich and on July 23, 1955 they were united in marriage in Waterloo, IA. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA graduating with a degree in pharmacy in 1955. He began working for Osco Drug in Iowa and over the years lived in several places in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana, eventually working in Osco management. Dick and Jackie started taking family vacations to Blackduck in the 1960’s and moved to Blackduck Lake after his retirement in 1990.
He had resided at the Good Samaritan Senior Living, Blackduck for the past 7 years. Dick enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodcarving. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blackduck, Blackduck Lions and the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner in Iowa. He especially loved spending time with his family. Dick is survived by his 4 children, Mike (Karen) Berray of Austin, TX, Deb (Mike) Stephens of Terre Haute, IN, Toni (Rick) Masingill of Rockford, IL and Kathy (Jeff) Oelke of Blackduck, MN; 8 grandchildren, Igor, Yulia, Kevin, Craig, Nick, Matt, Jordan and Logan; 8 great-grandchildren, Kayden, Tristin, Aubree, Aria, Victoria, Lizzie, Haylen and Malcolm; brother-in-law, Joe (Troyce) Vich of Iowa; and a niece and a nephew. He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Jackie in 2010; his parents; and brother, Bob Berray.
